Wagon Hill Farm, Durham, NH
This 140-acre site was farmed until 1960. Thanks to the Town of Durham, it is now one of the places the public can enjoy a wooded upland and tidal shoreline of the estuary. It is hard to miss the entrance to this place from Route 4, where the old wooden buckboard sits on a southern hill near the Dover line. (40 acres of the site have been left undeveloped on the other side of the road.) The 1.2-mile Chesley Grove Trail leads down from the parking lot across a broad meadow and through woods. The path along the shore at the mouth of the Oyster River passes varied habitats, including tidal marshes, tidal flats and streams. Trail Map courtesy of the Town of Durham.
