Odiorne Point State Park, Rye, NH
The rocks just outside the Seacoast Science Center are a great place to explore intertidal rocky shore life. Behind the center, a trail leads through the woods out to the jetty at Frost Point. There are scenic views of the open coast along the way, with a particularly beautiful view from a large hill over the Battery Seaman (a WWII structure) about half way along. Paths down to the beach give access to tide pools where you can search for intertidal creatures.
The walk out to Frost Point is nearly one mile. You can either head back on the same trail, or continue past the point to walk the sandy beach on Little Harbor. After about half a mile there are trails leading back into the woods. One heads in to where there are remnants of a formal garden. Lilies of the valley have formed a large carpet there. A second trail from the beach continues through the woods toward a saltmarsh and parking area near the Ordiorne Park boat launch. The walking path at the entrance to that parking lot takes you along Route 1A for over a half mile back to the Science Center. Trail maps for this 331-acre state park are at the Seacoast Science Center.
Off Route 1A in Rye, NH. $3 in season for adults, children under 12 free. (603) 436-7406
